Hatha Yoga
Hatha Yoga is a classic form of yoga which has asserted itself widely in the Western hemisphere. A typical session of Hatha consists of three basic elements:
- Short relaxation at the beginning
- Asanas
- Short relaxation at the end
Hatha Yoga exercises
Hatha Yoga consists of both passive and active elements. The exercises are taken in lying,
sitting, crouching and standing positions.
Initial relaxation exercise
This exercise helps you to concentrate your energy in the present, in the room and in your
body, thus relieving you of all feelings of agitation or stress and guaranteeing an improved
awareness and concentration.
‘Pranayama’ = energy by breathing (breathing techniques)
They improve the blood oxygen levels and therefore offer a “fresh cell therapy” for every
single cell. The brain practically is flooded with oxygen and therefore muscular tensions can
be released and all irritating feelings disappear. Initial relaxation exercises can be replaced by
a short session of full breathing.
After some practice pranayama exercises will enable you to control your breath, concentrate
your power, reduce pain, increase or decrease your body temperature, stimulate digestion.
Besides they will help you to fall asleep easily and to sleep through the night, as well as to
breathe away irritation.
Practice makes perfect!
Asana = body exercises, postures
Asanas are easily learned. You only need concentration, a correct posture and conscious
breathing. Many Asanas become difficult only because of having to hold a posture for a
certain time.
Quite often a good equilibrium sense and well developed deep muscles are important issues;
therefore Asanas are also of high interest to men and athletes, as common training exercises
often neglect these areas.
Besides, stretching is one of the crucial elements of Asana: stretched muscles remain well
defined and elastic, just as those of wildcats. You can never achieve high levels of
performance if your muscles aren't elastic. Another advantage: the risk of injuries is
minimized.
Yoga means breathing into the stretched muscle to avoid sore muscles. Still, there’s no room for ambition in Hatha Yoga.
As Asana teaches you body awareness your movements will be full of self consciousness,
you’ll be able to become more understanding and loving.
Thanks to their particular positions many Asanas have direct impacts on our inner senses. The “tree” is stabilizing, the "warrior" makes you fearless, etc. Regular practice will soon make
you perfect!
Meditation & concluding deep relaxation exercises
We will let our minds wander: our thoughts will follow the calmly spoken words or we’ll be
sent on journey through our body with our breathing. Thus your head won’t be able to deal
with everyday life and for 5 60 15 minutes you’ll give up all contact to the outside world. If
practiced on a regular basis meditation is just perfect to fight stress and all its negative
consequences by completely relaxing the autonomic nervous system.
